Participants\u2019 overall proneness to psychosis was also considered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychcongress.com\/article\/adjunctive-cognitive-behavioral-therapy-could-help-stave-psychosis-27907\" target=\"_blank\">Adjunctive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Could Help Stave off Psychosis<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLoneliness is a common problem in patients with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.psychcongress.com\/psych-topics\/schizophrenia-psychotic-disorders\">schizophrenia<\/a>, and may be particularly linked with persecutory ideation,\u201d the authors wrote. \u201cNevertheless, its role as a potential risk factor in the formation and maintenance of persecutory delusions is largely unexplored.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Induction of loneliness lead to more pronounced paranoia overall, and a decrease in loneliness was associated with a significant reduction in present paranoid beliefs, the team found.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, \u201cproneness to psychosis significantly moderated the impact of loneliness on paranoia,\u201d the authors wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersons with a pronounced level of proneness to psychosis showed a stronger reduction of paranoid beliefs as a consequence of a decrease in loneliness, than less prone individuals,\u201d the study says.<\/p>\n<p>The team recommended research in high-risk individuals on the association between loneliness and paranoia, and the possible implications for cognitive behavioral therapy.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Terri Airov<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reference<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0005791616301367\" target=\"_blank\">Lamster F, Nittel C, Rief W, Mehl S, Lincoln T.
